"RAMS: Respect. Attitude to Achieve, Manners and Safety"
The culture of Big Thompson Elementary School (Big T) can be accurately described in one word: driven. As a STEM school Big T challenges its students to achieve particularly in the sciences. The staff and faculty and very talented and kind and were very helpful during my time working at Big T. One element that stood out to me was the many extra clubs and activities that were offered to students outside of regular school hours. There were opportunities for students to receive extra help and go beyond the content of their classrooms. The schools also hosts special nights after school where parents and students explore new STEM resources and concepts which are brought in for that special night.
The student population at Big T is majority white with the vast population of students coming from small towns in the mountains. Students often live on farms and have many experiences with various farm animals. Big T is a mountain school with a close-knit mountain community. At Big T there is a deep rooted love for nature and the outdoors and the faculty and staff take every opportunity to get the kids outside exploring nature.
