During my time at Colorado State University I had the opportunity to work with the incredible staff and participants of the Community Connections program. Community Connections is a transition program designed for young adults ages 18 to 21 with moderate to severe needs within the Poudre School District. During my time with the program I worked with a group of student teachers, like myself, and participants. I worked with one participant in particular and developed lesson plans tailored to him. Developing lessons with one student in mind, particularly a high-needs student engrained the importance of differentiated instruction to meet the various needs of every student in the room. Working with Community Connections was a great experience and helped develop my planning, instruction and management as well as developing my comfort and confidence as a teacher.
